Can anyone advise which wifi provider is best to install in a home context?

I use Telkom's fastest ADSL, with capped acc as my service provider, and a Belkin N+ wifi modem router.

I order 15 gigs a month from , at R29 per gig. Same price for topups, sometimes half price.

Jen and I connect our phones and our iPads all the time, plus our laptops and a wifi printer. Works perfectly.

sounds sharp! Thanks for info. Don't have landline so thought should bypass adsl?

We also didn't have a landline. But decided the ADSL justified it. Blazingly fast. R500 Telkom + R350 per month.

Saw an N++ wifi router which gives internal speeds of 600 mbps. My N+ gives 300.

I think what I'm trying to say re your modem router is that it's the nerve centre of the whole system.

Spend as much as you can on the modem router.

You CAN get away with a 3g based home wireless solution. But you'll spend freakloads on bandwidth that isn't fast enough.

Another thing about 3g networking at home is that it becomes prohibitive to download multimedia. Dead end fast.

10:03AM Mon, May 23 2011

Roy-shhhhhh-medium-opt_normal @RoyBlumenthal

Also, 3g is inconsistent and unreliable re speed. Sometimes Skype will fly. Mostly, it'll limp. ADSL is way better.

faster the better! Going to research it now. Will let you know!

ok so the router is key! Do you both plug in at the same time and get equal speediness?

10:17AM Mon, May 23 2011

Roy-shhhhhh-medium-opt_normal @RoyBlumenthal

We often have five devices connecting simultaneously with no speed degradation. Even while downloading.

Oh... avoid all Apple wifi solutions. Mediocre machinery with a glorious profit margin. I went Belkin. No hassles.

Roy-shhhhhh-medium-opt_normal @RoyBlumenthal

Oh... be sure to buy six or so surge protection plug sockets/adaptors. They're expensive, but they protect your stuff.

golly you are an oracle of info! Wish you could install it too :). Thanks.

10:23AM Mon, May 23 2011

Roy-shhhhhh-medium-opt_normal @RoyBlumenthal

It's REALLY easy. You'll see.

10:24AM Mon, May 23 2011

Roy-shhhhhh-medium-opt_normal @RoyBlumenthal

Get your Telkom line sorted as soon as you can. It CAN take weeks for them to switch you on.

Oh yeah... another ADSL benefit is that you can hook your video surveillance system into it. See your cameras from anywhere.
