Can someone please explain to me how to do a cryptic crossword? How can "Wounded under fire, finally survive" possible be 'endure'?

This is a guess: Wounded under means anagram of under, "fire, finally" gives you e (last letter of fire), word means survive.

'Wounded' refers to the fact the word 'under' has been scrambled up, as the first part of the word endure is an anagram.

The word under has been wounded - i.e., broken up and messed around, to give you 'endur'.

"wounded" here means "under" gets anagrammed. "fire, finally" means take fire's last letter (e). Ignore the comma.

wounded means break up the letters in 'under' to get 'endur' then finally refers to last letter in fire 'e', endure = survive!
