if you root it, you can do it on device. Otherwise launch Eclipse with the Android tools installed.

I use the app ShootMe to take screen shots. It didn’t need root for me in order to work.

that depends on whether installing the SDK and the Eclipse IDE meets your definition of insane. They should've added that feature.

you need a couple of tiny bits from the whole SDK. ddms pulls screen grabs via USB. Also check Market for some hacks.
