Ok I need some help - WHAT IS THE LABOUR PARTY FOR? - in three words. I'm crowd sourcing for a New Statesman post. Any suggestions?
Solidarity, equality, opportunity
WHAT IS THE LABOUR PARTY FOR? Your guess as good as mine... No longer for the workers, beneficiaries or dispossessed
MAKE MONEYMANSHIP TODAY (as would say)
NOT BLOODY MUCH! (Just kidding, from the U.S....)
Do you mean "What should the Labour party be for?" or "What is it for right now?"
In Cheshire. From Pompey.
To remind us of the alternative to the Tories ruining our country. A lesson in futility and despair, really
Stroud Green, I think
Currently? For the rich. What it should be? For the poor.
"Realise community potential"
students (apparently), northerners
Stealing leftwing votes - Following the wind - Cynicism, timidity, newspeak - spin, lies, triangulation - hope that helps!
Giving working people a political voice (is what it is supposed to be for)
"solidarity, tolerance, respect"
tch, someone's rebelling against the three-word rule there...
just to be really picky, they aren't really values. More of a mission? I'm splitting hairs though.
old skool! Out of interest why'd'you prefer the "workers" formula to "social justice" type ones?
Can be argued with unequal effect of cuts on women etc the gender/ethnic/sexuality role also pretty central now
But class is central to that too. A millionaire woman will not be affected in same way as a working-class woman
It should be the party for helping the disadvantaged, but under Blair and Brown it helped the top financiers.
But Rowenna didn't specify values in her request?
identikit political wonks (applies when describing any party these days)
apols, you're right. Just what the Labour Party is for. Arguably you've hit the nail on the head, at least at its origin.
I'd hope that remains the case, even if it what it means to be a worker is different from when the party was founded
Three words? Implementing social democracy.
4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42
i think someone once said it was education education education
community, solidarity & equality
organising people to win elections (5 words, sorry)
if you are after a slogan, we used "on your side against savage cuts" in 2010, which i think is a good one
for me Labour is the party of Public Services and Public Service. Sadly, Blairism killed both.
Positively or normatively? What *is* it for, or what *should* it be for?
Sorry, just scrolled up and discovered everyone in the world asked you the same question.

2 help middle class like u who've never had a proper job or experience of life outside your own bubble get a political career
The phrase is less about what Labour is now, and more about what three word slogan would appeal to the public >> think branding!
South Coast. Devon. UK
What is Labour for? SPY ON PEOPLE
"a broad movement on behalf of the bottom dog"?
saying that charity is no substitute for justice withheld (Augustine)
but does that appeal to the whole of Britain? I'm thinking of a slogan that would win elections.
I like this, but does it appeal to Mail readers as well as Guardian writers?
'For the many, not the few' was one of the most powerful statements we had under New Labour.
Spreading opportunity as far and wide as possible.
'Your voice in tough time' was an excellent elex slogan. Other LP slogans tend 2 b rather clunky unfortunately
Opportunity/equality for all is what I would go for, yeah.
Too long 'Opportunity for all' is far more pithy.
Can you really sum up what a party means in 10 words or less? I think not. Better to not try.
this is stolen but Never Knowingly Underspent.
.@RowennaDavis - re: What is the Labour Party for, why not riff off of Harry Perkins: "Abolishing Second Class"?

IT WAS TO BE FOR ALL THE PEOPLE, BUT IT HAS LOST ITSLEF SOMEHOW, SO I AM LOOKING FOR A LOST SEAT TO REPRESENT, BRING BACK
Labour party in three words: the lesser evil.

I can tell you the answer in one word: "everybody", but if you want 3 "many not few" or "hope, fairness, responsibility"
