Why do Military FPS's allow for the use of shotguns? You're hardly ever at close enough range for them to be useful, they're just wastes.

Depends on the game, the map, match type, and area. Got alot of use out of my shotgun in the BF3 beta in the tunnels.

Because Military FPS games always way, WAY underestimate the actual range of a real shotgun.

Because in the real world, shotguns have an effective range of more than a dozen meters? Real militaries still use them IRL.

Shotgun variations are popular; slug-rounds, beanbags. Also, they were used frequently in 'Nam. #ruleofcool?

In real life, shotguns are more useful the military. The range/effectiveness ratio is exaggerated a bit in video games.
