And I've occasionally shut a tab I've just typed a comment/post/rant into and lost it all.

If you accidentally close a tab, press shift+ctrl+t to get it back up again. :)

I know how to reopen it, it's the fact I was halfway through watching a video and had to find my place again.

Unless you close down Chrome, you can prestt shift+ctrl+t multiple times and get up any tab you've closed down.
