I need to speak to an SEO Expert regarding SEO implications when changing domain name - can anyone help?
I'm no 'expert', but you want to setup a 301 Redirect, it helps to move across some of your previous page ranking and seo
I'm thinking 301 redirect is the only option but I hear that you can vanish from search engines for 2-3 months?
No prob, hope it all works out for you
canonical all pages to the new pages then when it ranks 301. You may have downtime but shouldnt b 2-3 months
If you are planning to change your domain name the possible implication will be that your site will lose page rank due to the age of the domain name & pages that are already indexed will lose rank due to the actual page address changes.
Try not 2 change domain names at all costs. It's an SEO disaster. If you have to, speak 2 an expert in redirects. That might help.
is correct. If you change your domain name, then whatever rankings you have on that domain will eventually be lost. It is best to leave the old pages that rank up and running with anchor text optimized links pointing to the new pages that correspond with the old pages. Google doesn't rank sites, it ranks individual pages within sites. There is a huge difference.
