Deeply uneducated question alert: Can anyone explain why a modern website would require typing the "www." when typing the web address?

It's a DNS & web server alias thing. nccourts.org & www.nccourts.org can map to separate IP addr's.

Could have www.nc...or wake.nc...,orange.nc...,lee.nc.., etc, point to diff things, & just nccourts.org be a landing page.

you have to have both www and non-www listed in the DNS registry. I think it's as simple as that ....
