It's easy to take one verse out of context and twist it, rather than take the verse in the full context of the passage.

It's also easier to read literally, than figuratively and in historical/cultural context of the time it was written.

because religions are based on beliefs, not ideas. Selective reading is required when you have beliefs instead of ideas.
