Can anyone help please? A customer has asked if it's OK to wash her #cross-stitch on Aida fabric. I don't know....Do you? #cross stitch

I used to wash mine. Use a light washing solution or baby shampoo. roll in a towel to remove water & dry flat x

Unless there is a specific spot or stain, don't risk it. Dyes may not be colourfast and fabric will shrink.

Thanx for reply. There is a mark - I didn't ask what it was (idiot) and she thinks to sponge it will leave a water mark.

I'd use a barely damp cloth, just get the mark out and then blot out the wetness with a dry towel immediately.

Thanx for reply. That's very encouraging. Aida fabric and Anchor stranded cottons?

I used to use all sorts. Not too hot water and just gentle handwash x

I don't, but if they've used colour fast threads, a gentle hand wash and block should be fine

You can wash cross stitched aida by hand in luke-warm water with a mild detourgent. Rinse it several times afterwards.

It depends on what thread was used to stitch & if the Aida has been overdyed . DMC thread is usually colorsafe.

The threads are Anchor stranded cottons - they are apparently colour fast. Phew!! Most people think it safe to wash gently.
