Why is "long term disability" a job perk in America? I'm guessing it means something other than how it reads?

presumably if you're signed off work they'll support you for a longer time than most… because the US govt doesn't give a toss

Which, if you're with a large corp employer in the UK, you'd expect anyway. Most do 26 wks full pay + 26 half.

it's insurance where if anything happens to you that makes it so you can't work for a long term (> 3-6mo) you still get paid
