Does anyone know the origin of calling a carousel on a homepage a 'hero' banner?

I think it comes from print. Where a "Hero" was the largest size. But that could be apocryphal.

afaik a hero banner usually means one large image prominently displayed. i don't usually hear carousels referred to as hero.
