Windsor? Has a castle and lots of lego, what more could you want? (Also has horse racing if he is into gambling :))

Kew Gardens? Nice weather and won't too busy as it's a school day.
How old is he? Cardiff is cool, has a great kid's science museum, Dr Who exhibition and the castle. My kids love it there!

Legoland! Thorpe Park. Loads of trains to both.
Canterbury? Boat trip on river; awesome museum (interactive + Rupert Bear); can get to seaside (Herne Bay) from there...
Bring him down to Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs - 1hr20mins from St Pancras. Like Brighton, just smaller!
you could stay in Worthing and then get train to Brighton (15 mins away)

Southend...according to the Guardian, this is the seaside town that hasn't died.. It's great here and 1hr from Fenchurch St
Hastings is nice only 1 hour 45 minutes from London on the train

plenty to do also castle, smugglers caves etc. hotel to stay at to which is nice to
Rye. It's lovely, there's seaside (Camber Sands) & it has the prettiest little village. It's safe & also very dig friendly.
must be somewhere in Brighton? Can always try Worthing, only 20min by train from the fun and frolics of Brighton?

Alton Towers are doing a special offer today because it's Friday the 13th.. No idea how old your son is though!
York is only 1:50 hrs and has the Viking experience and Train Museum.
Have you been to chesington zoo. It's great and there is a hotel on site with kids characters joining you for breakfast.
One in London I'm afraid but if you havnt taken him before check out The Golden Hinde (pirate ship on South Bank) - FUN!!
Windsor - Legoland, river, forest, trainable. Or Whitstable has a great beach and an old-fashioned sweet shop.
Swanage in Dorset is lovely for kids.
Legoland is not far, or couple of hours on train will get you to National Space Centre, or to Portsmouth for Historic Boats
chessington! They've got sealife, zoo and rides. Taking my 3yr old boy today.

Lewes is just up the coast from Brighton and very lovely.
Southend? It's not exactly beautiful but if you want beach and fun for kids it's fine. Real close to London!
Bournemouth, less than 2 hours on a fast train, plus we have sand unlike Brighton!
