Technically the closest match would be wordpress.com but it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. Wordpress is a bit easier to deal with and there are theme frameworks that are kind of wysiwyg

Always backup your database and theme files to be safe before an upgrade. If you alter plugins, back those up too. Risk is that an update will break something and make it hard to retrieve.

Workaround: Upload a short video, then use FTP to replace it with the longer video. Just name them the same thing and overwrite. That will get the video into WordPress system and bypass the ISP upload limit.

Your host probably has an upload limit in place and the video is too big. Uploading to YouTube or Vimeo and then pasting the link will work or there is a workaround

Might be that the index page is coded a bit differently and the plugin can't replace the static stuff with dynamic. Hard to say without looking though.

It's possible to attach a comment to media (image, etc) even with comments disabled. If you get Akismet, it will kill almost all spam for you

Drupal is a little hard for end users to deal with but granted it is amazing to dev with. Cake needs effort. WordPress is fire-and-forget in a lot of ways.

They're all good for CMS but have different strengths. #wordpress may be the simplest to deploy and maintain but Joomla and Drupal are a bit more geared to larger sites with tons of contributors.

Look in the theme's header.php file. That's typically where the menu is placed and the code should be there.

Yes, this is possible. If your ISP allows multiple domains on a single account, you're all set. If you can only have one domain for your account, you could run WordPress in MultiSite mode and use subdomains or subdirectories

Wordpress.com is managed hosting. Free but featured limited. Easier for non-techies. Wordpress.org is where you download #wordpress to run it on your own hosting. Also free, less limited, but you need to know a bit more about web sites to get going (usually).

If you change your permalink structure, you need to use 301 redirects to make sure the old links continue to find content and also so Google doesn't de-list those pages.

There are so many useful plugins, it's hard to know where to start. I recommend getting the Yoast SEO plugin and Jetpack to get site stats and some other goodies. Akismet for spam protection. After that, it depends on what you need.

No you don't need to edit the theme. The plugin should have added a shortcode that will let you embed the gallery in a post or page.

Depends on your ISP. If your ISP allows multiple domains on the account, then very possible. Otherwise you have to make the #wordpress installs in subfolders of the main site, but you can do it.

WordPress by itself does not cache. There are caching plugins for it and your server and/or ISP and/or browser may be doing some caching automatically. The trick is knowing which one is happening and then being able to fix it.

The blackberry browsers are pretty poor and most wordpress themes are pretty complex. You can install the WP Touch plugin to get a mobile-friendly theme available automatically.

Organize your content before building the site. Decide on pages/categories and how interactive it will be. Make sure your theme supports your content structure. Best I can do with little info/over Twitter.

Too many possible answers. The spammers are using robots to test domains and when they find a form, they submit it automatically. This is why you need Akismet or a captcha. Why no one else is a more complicated question...lots of factors go into it.

A 500 error means something is fundamentally wrong with a script (bad coding, missing ; etc.). If you can get to the Dashboard, disable any recently added plugins

If it's a wordpress.com blog, they will sometimes put ads on it. If you are self-hosted, you likely have been hacked or your theme has some code that allows people to run ads without your permission.

Best way is to create a custom page template for the holding page and then set it to be the default page for WordPress. Just don't include any navigation on it and you'll be fine...
